Dear SCDSA Members:
Sergeant Connie Merkins took it upon herself to organize a jewelry sale fundraiser for the Lara family. The sales totaled $2942, and Connie donated the entire portion her proceeds (50%) to the Lara family. As a result, and on behalf of Connie and all of you that made purchases, the STAR 6 Foundation will be presenting the family with a check for $1471.50. The jewelry shipment is due on September 17, 2009, and Connie will start making deliveries the following Monday.
In addition, at the recent general membership meeting, Sergeant Greg Coauette presented the STAR 6 Foundation with a check for a $1,000. As many of you know, Greg makes the black wristbands available for purchase at the Main Jail. To date, Sergeant Coauette has donated more than $3,000 to the STAR 6 Foundation.
I would also like to say thanks to Cindy Yeafoli and all the members at RCCC. Cindy has been running a store down there, and she is constantly stopping by the office with $600 checks. To date, Cindy has donated over $1,800 to the STAR 6 Foundation.
The STAR 6 Foundation currently has about $66,000 in the bank account. All the funds come from our members through payroll deductions, currently around $1,700 per month, and through the efforts of members like Connie, Greg and Cindy. Our vision is to someday have corporate sponsors, but the one thing corporations want to know, is what the organization has done to fund their Foundation. So, I would like to thank you for your support, and with your continued efforts, we will make the vision a reality.
In closing, I would also like to thank the Verhoeven Foundation and LEMA for all of their support, both financially and emotionally, following the loss of Kelley.
