Thanks to all the participants, sponsors and volunteers who made this year’s STAR 6 Memorial Run a huge success! We had almost 900 participants this year…nearly double from last year!
This is our second year and as a young event we are growing, learning and building a better run every year. We listened to last year’s participants and changes were made. This year we have identified several things we need to modify and want to get your feedback as well. Please be constructive and let us know how to make next year’s STAR 6 Run better for everyone…from serious runners to the family walkers.
Here is what we have identified so far that needs addressing for next year’s race...
- Close down the course to outside runners and bikers
- Clearly mark the 5K, 10K and 1 Mile turns
- Have aid stations at both the 5K and 10K turns and ensure enough water is at each station
- Ensure more water is available at the start and finish collection area
- Have a final depart time for shuttle bus from overflow area to ensure race starts on time
- Have additional speakers facing to the sides and reas or DJ booth
- Announcing that results are "preliminary" as they are being posted. As discrepencies are noticed changes are made, which may alter the finish times or placement of runners in different age divisions.
- Ability for parents to register minors online without having to sign up themselves
- Ability to see runners who are registered online with a specific team
Here are some things we are thinking about adding for next year’s race...
- Sworn Officer team competition and civilian team competition modeled after our youth team competition this year
- Improvements to the youth team competition including adding trophy
- Include team competitions in overall winner categories
- Set up a booth to sell STAR 6 Foundation apparel; hats, key chains, visors, beanies, etc
- Adding vendors to staging area
- Including a family BBQ after the race
We truly appreciate each and every one of you who participated in this year’s run. You are the reason for our huge success again this year!
